Frequently asked questions

What Gmail permission does FollowUp request?

FollowUp requests only gmail.readonly. It can read messages and thread metadata to create your queue, but it cannot send, archive, delete, relabel, or mark email as read.

Why does Google say FollowUp is unverified or unsafe?

Google's verification review is still in progress, so it may show an unverified-app warning before the normal consent screen. Continue only if you downloaded FollowUp from this website, the page is on accounts.google.com, the app name is FollowUp, and the requested Gmail permission is read-only. Click Advanced, then click Go to FollowUp (unsafe) only if you have confirmed those details and are comfortable proceeding. The “unsafe” label is Google's warning that verification is incomplete; it should never be bypassed for an unfamiliar app. If anything looks different, close the page and do not grant access.

Does my Gmail content go to a FollowUp server?

No. Gmail content is retrieved from Google by the native macOS app and processed on your Mac by the selected downloaded model or, after an explicit opt-out, lower-accuracy deterministic Basic Mode rules. The model-file download contains no Gmail or Messages content, and conversation content is not transmitted to FollowUp-operated servers.

Why does FollowUp download a model?

Keeping models outside the app makes FollowUp and its updates much smaller. Qwen3 4B is the recommended 2.50 GB option and best balance of accuracy, speed, and memory use. Qwen3 8B is the larger 5.03 GB option and is intended for Macs with at least 16 GB of memory. FollowUp downloads the selected pinned model over HTTPS and verifies it before use. You can pause or resume a download; lower-accuracy Basic Mode requires an explicit warning.

Where are my tokens and queue stored?

Google OAuth tokens are protected in macOS Keychain. Queue snapshots are kept in the app's private folder at ~/Library/Application Support/FollowUp.

Can FollowUp reply or change my inbox?

No. FollowUp can open the original conversation and copy a suggested draft, but you decide whether to send it in Messages or Gmail. It does not modify Gmail.

How do I disconnect Gmail or remove local data?

Use Disconnect in Accounts to remove Gmail authorization only. To remove authorization and all saved FollowUp queue data together, open Privacy and choose Delete Local Data…. See the complete data deletion instructions for details and a manual fallback. Local AI model artifacts are preserved by that action and can be removed separately from Accounts. Removing the selected model preserves any other downloaded model pack.

Which Macs are supported?

FollowUp 0.7 supports Apple silicon Macs only (M1 or newer) and requires macOS 14 or later.

How does FollowUp update itself?

FollowUp checks this website once per day and downloads cryptographically signed updates in the background. A ready update installs when FollowUp next quits. You can also choose FollowUp → Check for Updates… to check immediately. The update check does not include message or email content.
